Thatcher, AZ—EAC will offer College for Kids classes once again this year for kids ages 3-17. Parents can register their kids through Thursday, May 28, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., at EAC’s Records and Registration office located in the Student Services Building in Thatcher.
“Arts and Crafts - Fun with Shapes,” taught by Martha McBride, is for kids ages 8-12. The class is offering two sections, June 1-5, and June 8-12, both will meet weekdays from 2-3:50 p.m., in EAC’s South Campus Classroom #13. Children will make several fun, wearable, and usable craft projects including a Father’s Day gift for their dads.
“Beginning Yoga,” taught by Brianna DeRusha, is for ages 7-17. The class will meet weekdays, June 1-5, in the EAC Fine Arts Center, Room #16 (Green Room), from 2-2:50 p.m. Children will briefly explore the foundations of yoga while learning a variety of asanas (poses) to help encourage a healthy life-long practice that supports health and proper body alignment. “Crafts for Kids,” taught by Alicia Ferrin, will be held at EAC’s South Campus Classroom #13. The 3-8 year olds will meet weekdays, June 1-5 or June 8-12, from 9-9:50 a.m. The 9-14 year olds will meet weekdays, June 1-5 or June 8-12, from 10-10:50 a.m. Children will make fun summer crafts using a variety of materials and take home a new craft each day!v “Group Voice Lessons,” taught by Brianna DeRusha, is for kids ages 8-17. The class will meet weekdays, June 1-5, from 11-11:50 a.m., in the Fine Arts Center, Room #111 (Choir Room). Children will learn a variety of warm-up exercises to help strengthen the voice, and also learn several group numbers. Each child will have the opportunity to sing a solo.
“Hoop Dance,” taught by Brianna De Rusha, is for kids ages 7-17. This class will meet weekdays, June 1-5, from 1-1:50 p.m., in the EAC Fine Arts Center, Room #16. Children will explore the new trend in Hoop Dance. They will make a custom hoop and learn many tricks and movements with their hoop. Plenty of exercise will be included! “Art for Everyone,” taught by Brianna DeRusha, is for kids ages 7-17. This class will meet weekdays, June 1-5, from 9-9:50 a.m., in the EAC Math/Science Building, Room #316. Children will be introduced to a variety of art forms including: painting, drawing, building a dream board and a hula hoop.
“DOT. MATH,” taught by Madhuri Bapat, will meet weekdays, June 8-12. There are two separate sections of this class for various age groups. Kids ages 6-10 will meet from 8-8:50 a.m., and ages 11-15 will meet from 9-9:50 a.m., both in the EAC Math/Science Building, Room #109. Children will learn to apply basic math concepts such as symmetry, fractions, geometry, algebra, and numbers to rangolee designs to reinforce the understanding in a fun and creative way.
“Introduction to Dance,” taught by Jenny Rogers, will meet weekdays, June 8-12. There are two separate sections of this class for various age groups. Kids ages 3-5 will meet from 10-10:50 a.m. and ages 6-14 will meet from 11-11:50 a.m. All classes will be held at the Safford Dance Academy located at 517 W. Main St. in Safford. Students will be introduced to the basic steps and techniques of dance. The 3-5 age group will learn ballet, tap, and tumbling and the 6-14 age group will learn ballet, jazz, and hip-hop. The week will finish with a small performance for parents on Friday.
“Martial Arts for Beginners,” taught by Chad Jones, will be broken into three age groups. For ages 3-5, the class will run weekdays June 1-5, from 10-10:50 a.m. For ages 6-10, the classes will run weekdays, June 1-5, from noon-12:50 p.m. For ages 11-17, the class will run weekdays, June 8-12, from 11-11:50 a.m. All classes will meet at Extreme Martial Arts studio located at 514 W. 7th St. in Safford. Children will learn the basics of martial arts and a fun way to exercise while also learning teamwork drills, self-defense, and coordination. Each class will have a different martial arts drill, game, and challenge.
“Rangolee Art,” taught by Madhuri Bapat, is for kids ages 8-15, and will run weekdays, June 1-5, from 8-9:50 a.m. This class will be held in the EAC Math/Science Building, Room #109. Students will learn to draw five rangolee designs and decorate them using colored sand. They will make one design on a foam board to take home.
“Junior Life Guard Class,” taught by Lori Christensen, is for ages 11-14. This class is being offered twice, June 9-20 and July 7-18. Tuesday and Thursday classes meet in EAC’s South Campus Room #1A, from 5-6:30 p.m. On Wednesday, the class will meet at the pool from 5-5:50 p.m. and in EAC’s South Campus Room #1A, at 6-6:30 p.m. On Saturdays, the class will meet at the pool from 8-10 a.m. Students are given a sneak peek into what it takes to become a great life guard. They will be introduced to lifesaving skills, leadership skills, lifeguarding, and fitness.
